How to get here

We are just two miles from Cheltenham town centre. We’re an equal distance from Cheltenham Spa railway station, which is wheelchair accessible. From here, some residents travel to Bristol, Cardiff, London and across the UK. We have good road links too, being not far from the M5 and several major A roads.

Who we support

We support disabled adults to live their lives as they choose. At Gloucestershire House our team provides high-quality, personalised support.  Each resident has a person-centred plan (PCP) that can be updated as required. The PCP clearly sets out what is important to each individual. We know that people’s conditions are just one part of their lives, affecting people in different ways. In case it is useful for prospective residents to know, we support people with a wide range of conditions including:

  • multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • cerebral palsy
  • spina bifida
  • brain injuries
  • learning disabilities (associated with a few people’s neurological conditions)
  • strokes

I love living here! It’s been my home for 20 years and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. I get involved in lots of fun activities and I am fully involved in the running of my home. I always feel listened to, we have regular meetings and it feels like a very safe and happy place to live

What support we provide

We can offer all forms of personal care and mobility support. We have dedicated support workers and an expert nursing team that includes mental health nurses.

In our residential service, every bedroom has an en suite bathroom and a ceiling track hoist. Staff are available 24/7. In our supported living service, every flat has a lounge, combined with a dining area and kitchen space. Every flat has its own bathroom. Staff are available when required. In all settings, we support everyone to be as independent as possible.

We have two physios and two physio assistants, providing tailored programmes for residents. We have both a physiotherapy suite and a hydrotherapy pool. While mainly used by people at Gloucestershire House, these excellent facilities are open to other disabled people too. Contact Gloucestershire House to book a session.  We have freshly prepared meals and offer assistance at mealtimes as required, catering for full range of dietary needs.

Residents are hugely involved in the day-to-day running of Gloucestershire House. Many residents choose to apply for volunteer roles in the home, learning valuable employment skills. One person has a role as a postman, another has a role as a domestic assistant, while others help run a weekly café every Wednesday. Three residents have paid jobs outside the service.

We have good connections with the local community. Residents opted to create and run new training courses, some for children and some for adults. A recent course, aimed at non-disabled people living outside Gloucestershire House, shows what daily life is like for disabled adults.

I feel very proud to work at Gloucestershire House. The opportunities for residents are brilliant and the staff team are continuously supported to develop their skills. Even the more challenging days are always filled with laughter and encouragement. The building is very homely and there is a great sense of community

What activities are available

Our activities staff provide a range of in-house activities and help residents to arrange trips out of the service. We have three wheelchair-accessible minibuses that help people get out and about, and we encourage people to use public transport where possible.

People enjoy exploring the local area: Cheltenham and the nearby Cotswolds have lovely cafés, restaurants, shops and green spaces. There are picturesque parks, and some of these have Changing Places toilets with hoists.

People enjoy going to regular local festivals that celebrate food, art and music. There’s also a local pub half a mile away, which is fully accessible.
