Response to the government’s first periodic review on a selection of recommendations from the UNCRPD

Our Chief Executive Neil Heslop responds to the government’s first periodic review on a selection of recommendations from the UNCRPD:
'The UN report gave an international perspective on the daily struggles and inequalities associated with disabled life in the UK.
'We have been vocal in our criticism of government policy, from chaotic back tracking on benefits to the ongoing social care crisis. Austerity measures continue to damage lives and block opportunity.
'A year on, the long-awaited social care green paper is nowhere to be seen and it’s critical the UK finds a long-term solution that fully involves and meets the needs of disabled people.
'While there have been some positive developments, including the government’s Inclusive Transport Strategy and the creation of the Inter-Ministerial group looking at disability related issues, the daily reality of disabled people living in the UK remains incredibly challenging.'
