Who we support

We deliver person-centred care for adults so they can live life as they choose. You’ll find an environment where everyone’s personal preferences and wishes are understood and respected.

The service is designed be a useful stepping stone for people moving between different levels of support. So, for example, people moving into or out of residential care or moving into their own home for the first time

There are 7 flats. Each one has a bedroom with a wet room bathroom, a kitchen and a combined lounge and dining room.

Tenants at Cobbett House have a range of conditions, including: cerebral palsy, spina bifida, acquired brain injuries and mental health conditions, diabetes, epilepsy (controlled with medication).  Some people have multiple health conditions.

I feel settled at Cobbett House. I am treated with respect. I look after my own private garden which has lots of plants and pots. I also like watering the raised beds in the communal garden. Anyone thinking of moving here would feel very welcome and safe

What support we provide

At Cobbett House our committed and friendly staff are on hand day and night. We support everyone to be independent as possible in all aspects of their daily life. When required we can help out with personal care, medication, food preparation and general household tasks.

We can also support accessing the community for social activities and shopping. We support people to attend appointments as needed.

There is full wheelchair access throughout Cobbett House. All our bedrooms can include ceiling track hoists as needed (tracking mechanisms are in each room, connecting with the attached wetroom). We can easily put in hoisting equipment when required and we can support clients with hoist transfers. (Not every room has the hoist fitted as current tenants don’t need it.)

Our independent living support helps people develop valuable life skills. These include: cooking, shopping, household tasks, bills and money management, and goal-setting. People pay for their own utility bills except for broadband, which is free throughout the building.

If tenants aim to move on one day, help is there so people can plan ahead and look for the next place that’s right for them. So, as their needs change or they build new knowledge, we can work with people to identify where they want to go. We’ll help people figure out suitable living options for their future. We’ll also assist people to work out what support they might need. We’ll do all this together, directed by the tenant. If the tenant is happy with this, we’ll work alongside social care professionals to get the best advice.

What activities are available

We are close to the centre of Warminster with a variety of shops and cafés. The town has a popular civic centre with a monthly film club, as well as a celebrated theatre - the Athenaeum. We are just 2.5 miles from Longleat Safari Park (with its 500 animals in spacious surroundings, including a drive-thru safari experience) and the Longleat Estate. Cobbett House is in an Area of Natural Beauty (AONB), surrounded by stunning countryside. Bath and Salisbury are a short train or bus ride away.

Tenants enjoy barbecues together in good weather. They will sometimes gather for cake and a drink in the communal lounge. The lounge also has a Wii console, games and films. Tenants are also comfortable doing their own thing as they are rightly keen to live independent lives.
