At Leonard Cheshire and through our partner organisations, everything we do is about supporting disabled people to live, learn and work as independently as they choose, whatever their ability.

The purpose of processing

For the purposes of complying with contracts and enabling our representatives and external partners to travel and for monitoring and evaluation of projects.

The legal basis we use for processing

We either have a contractual obligation to process personal data or we will seek your consent. Where we have sought your consent you can remove this at any time.

What data we need

The categories of data being collected depend on the specific purpose and it can include:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact details
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Passport details
  • Occupation
  • Special categories: racial or ethnic origin and health data. On many occasions data would be anonymised so you cannot be identified.

Why we need the data and what we do with it

The data is often used in case we need to make travel arrangements, complete a contract, hire consultants or third parties, provide you with updates on Leonard Cheshire or salient information regarding the support to people with disabilities. The data is also used to assess the quality of the projects that Leonard Cheshire implements.

In specific instances Leonard Cheshire may partner with other organisations in order to deliver their objectives.

How long we keep the data

We will only retain your data for as long as is necessary or in accordance with legal requirements. How long we need to keep your personal data will depend on the purpose it was collected for, including to providing you with agreed services and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

What are your rights?

You have the right to see what personal data we hold about you (this is sometimes called a Subject Access Request). Furthermore, if you feel that the way we have used your personal data does not meet the expected standards, you have the right to contact your project country representative.

To obtain a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or to make a complaint, please email international@leonardcheshire.org if you are based in:

We aim to issue an initial response to all enquiries within five to ten working days and will offer a full response to all information access requests within 1 month of receipt.

Do we use any data processors?

We do not use any processors for the purposes set out above. 

Do we make any overseas transfers?

We may transfer data abroad; however, we adhere to all laws of the country that the data is obtained in.

Do we use any automated decision-making including profiling?

We don't make use of any automated decision-making or profiling.
